Walking Tour Freud

At first this guided walk will bring you to the famous address Berggasse 19. From 1891 until he emigrated in 1938, Sigmund Freud, the inventor of psychoanalysis, lived and worked here. Today the Sigmund Freud Museum is located in the former private and office rooms. Here you can get a glimpse of Freud's personal life and professional work. Then you will follow Freud traces in Vienna through intricate paths: from the Berggasse to the Neurological Institute, from the General Hospital to the University with its imposing courtyard, where you will not only find Freud's bust, but also those of his colleagues, friends and opponents. If you want, you can finish the morning or afternoon session with a coffee in Freud's regular coffee house, the "Landtmann"!

Lunch-Walk Fool's Tower "Narrenturm"

The museum is located in the so-called Fool's Tower. The Fool's Tower was built in 1784 under the Emperor Joseph II. It was the first psychiatric hospital. In 1869 the activity was stopped and the rotunda from then on was used as a nurses' home, for medical service apartments, as the custodian of University clinics and factories.
Since 1971, the Pathological-Anatomical Museum is hosted in the Fool’s Tower. Since 1993, the whole building is used as a museum. The collections of this museum have a long tradition and can look back on two hundred years of history. They served and serve for documentation and research of diseases and thus of humans (and animals) suffering. The museum was originally a place of teaching for medical students, nowadays the collections are partly accessible for the public as well. The transmission of knowledge about diseases - also in terms of a conscious confrontation with the often repressed, but not less real aspect of human life – is a major concern here.

Day Trip into Wachau

On this day trip you will visit the "World Cultural Heritage Wachau", scenically the most beautiful and culturally interesting part of the river Danube. At first the bus will take you to the Benedictine Abbey Melk, perched impressively on a cliff above the Danube River which is classified as a splendor model of baroque development. Then you will drive along the Danube through the millennia-old cultural landscape of castles and ruins, vineyards and apricot gardens over to Dürnstein. The place is known for its picturesque "blue church”, narrow streets and beautiful riverside location. In the former castle, today´s ruin Dürnstein, Richard the Lionheart was held prisoner before he was released for a ransom payment. Here you have some free time to stroll through the small shops and there is the possibility to have lunch in the restaurant Richard the Lionheart or in one of the "wine taverns"of the village. The return trip starts at about 3 pm through the Danube valley by ship to the 1000 year old town of Krems with its many churches tiny little shops and the old city gate which survived. After a short walk we return from Krems to Vienna by bus.
